Internet veterans probably remember the sale of the Business.com domain name in late 1999. Houston entrepreneur Marc Ostrofsky purchased the domain in 1997 for $150,000. Allow for a few years of the Internet Bubble swelling and Ostrofsky was able to sell the domain to Jake Winebaum for a record-setting $7.5 million.

And then the bubble burst.

Jump ahead to January 2006 and Sex.com is sold for $12 million (http://edition.cnn.com/2006/TECH/internet/01/24/sex.com.sale.reut/). Is this a sign that the heyday of wild domain speculation is now back? Or is this kind of phenomenal price reserved for those precious few domains that are so good that they can withstand any post-Dot-Bomb skepticism?
