Rudy Cline wrote an interesting article about search engine optimization called 10 Ways To Indirectly Get To The Top Of Search (http://www.promotionworld.com/se/articles/article/10WaysTopOfSearch.html). He has some great suggestions. To these, I would add:

11. Send your success story to a news site. They may ask you for more information or even an interview.

12. Create a survey on your site and publish an analysis article based on the results. Then submit the article on as much news site as you can. They will refer your site in their news articles.

13. Ask a writer – expert in the field to write an article linking in the content to your site as an example. This will guarantee both of you more popularity, since you will distribute this with doubled efforts.

14. Send your article to an expert in the field asking for comment. There is a chance you to learn more and your site to be linked on the author’s site.

I would add this to the list:

#15: Create the very best product and clearly explain the benefits to visitors.

This is obviously a more long-term strategy, but great products will rise to the top as more and more people evangelize them to friends. Time spent on improving your product will lead to happier customers and greater word-of-mouth advertising.

I'd recommend it for anyone who scratches his or her head when a new product explodes on the marketplace.
