Default Why do we care about pagerank?
Why do so many SEO people care about the google pagerank of their site? As far as I can tell it doesn't affect SERPs.

Well, page rank is not a issue when it comes on common keywords, but if you check the rankings of the websites who are ranking top for competitive keywords are having higher pageranks.

The primary site I work on has a PR5. But I'm getting outranked for certain words by PR4s who have more backlinks. So it appears to me that the backlinks are important, and the PR value of the site probably is not.
